Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Possessed (in Liberty or Equality, von Kuehnelt-Leddihn, 19)
Dostoyevsky was dealing with anarchists and revolutionaries in his time. People who wanted to topple the monarchy of Russia. They sought to use violence, engineer catastrophes, and commit to murder. Dostoyevsky had himself been a revolutionary doing these very same acts of uprisings against the Tsar. It was in prison where he had begun to reform his life. He was pardoned and would convert to the Orthodox Christian faith, the dominant religion in Tsarist Russia and in many ways, still the state religion. He abandoned his revolutionary ways and would go on to write such works as Crime and Punishment where he describes a crime against an aristocratic pawnbroker and how that eventually would lead to another crime against the pawnbroker's sister soon afterward. Dostoyevsky knew the nature of revolutionaries and the Bolshevik sentiment because he had been on that side before.
Today, we are hearing so-called "conservative" news outlets talk about the protests that have been sparked worldwide as an "insurrection". It makes sense upon reading Dostoyevsky's introduction of the philosopher Shigalyov sounds as if "insurrection" makes perfect sense but that misses a critical point. Shigalyov was fighting to institute equality. He was fighting against a structure that opposed his values already. That is not what today's demonstrators are doing. They have seen the animosity toward the COVID-19 lockdowns growing and they realize that the ability of the members of the society to control each other is starting to wane. People have been unifying against the lockdowns. They are understanding the baselessness of the COVID-19 shutdowns. They know government has failed to control the economy.
In addition, there is no hierarchical government system to oppose in today's world. Shigalyov fought against the monarchy but today's rioters aren't fighting against anything like that. They are seeing themselves joined by the neo-cons, the crony capitalists, and the Marxist revolutionaries. What do those three have in common? If you were tempted to say nothing, you should re-examine your thinking. There is one thing that each of these groups have in common. Neo-cons want to ravage countries that pose no threat with military force. Crony capitalists want to abuse the small and enable the big businesses to crush the weak. Marxist revolutionaries want to use violence to spark a class war. They all love destruction. Their god is Abaddon, simple.
And that is why what we are witnessing is not an insurrection. An insurrection, by definition, is a violent uprising against authority or government. But who is the government? Who put these people they are rising up against in power? They did. The people put these government officials in power by electing them to office. And now they scream for the government officials to bow down and submit. This is not what an insurrection looks like. These people realize that the government officials they put in power were losing a grip. They weren't able to do their bidding as the politicians became ignored. This is the fury. In the age of COVID-19, the power was well enjoyed while it lasted. Hubris ran its course and Nemesis strikes with a fury.
The race card was an easy one to pull in order to preserve the system that began to topple down on itself. Democracy is dying. Democratic statesmen can no longer salvage the system. They rely on the protesters. The demonstrators. The looters. The rioters. They rely on these instead. Democracy is a dying breed. It is breathing its last. It will not be long before it dies now. We are witnessing an end-game for democracy and this is only the beginning of the end. Global protests have sparked from one man's death and people think this is just about that one man? People are being forced to bow down before another on the basis of race and we think this is just about one man's death?
This is a race war that has been insinuated by the global left. That includes neo-cons and crony capitalists as well as Marxist revolutionaries. This is the denunciation of our neighbors that Shigalyov wants us to do. Bowing down to the protesters is a more powerful symbolic gesture than what can be thought of right now. Of course it won't lead to racial healing! It will lead to one race saying, "Look! We're the master race now!" It's about the symbolic gesture of becoming a slave. For, according to Shigalyov, all are equal in slavery. The bowing down and becoming a slave to your fellow man is not freedom. It is the opposite of freedom. And yet Shigalyov understood quite well that it meant equality.
This is not a movement seeking to rise up against authority. This is a movement trying desperately to avoid the inevitable reversion to hierarchy and order. That is why they cry for their fellow man to take a knee and denounce them as racist. This is what power looks like in democracy. It looks like factions moving against each other. People being torn apart by ideologies. People living as slaves towards one another. They aren't even satisfied by the kneeling of their enemies. They are satisfied only when the enforcement of their pro-slavery policies take place holding every and all men as slaves. This is why people freak out when you grant them liberties in a democratic state. They are losing equality.
This is no insurrection. This is a preservation movement. It is an effort to preserve racist ideologies that certain races are morally superior to other races. This is an effort to destroy any attempt to bring back the hierarchy. This is an effort to depose of unity among men. They tried the COVID-19 game where they locked us up in order to divide us. And we came out of our rooms. This is a last-ditch effort to preserve a failing system of government. A system of government that is fueled by division, factions, fools believing they are smarter than their peers, liars, bigotry, and hatred. They squirm at the mere thought of beauty. At the mere idea that man could want or prefer a single-ruled government over their chaos. They call monarchy an authoritarian system of government.
These people are democrats by nature. They find it most important to scoff at the "old" and "backwards" form of government that monarchy is. And yet they see now their system of government is crumbling. It's been exposed. It's been denuded as the factious system it truly is as it forced people into hiding from a virus that was never even as deadly as presumed to begin with. Now that it's exposed, they realize the only form of government that could possibly arise in its place is the dreaded monarchy. So they riot. They force people to bow down and submit. The denounce each other. That's what democracies do when they are dying. We are witnessing the death of global democracy. For that, we should take comfort in even as the chaos currently ensues.
